From the Altar

Brothers,

This was an exciting month for the lodge. Brother Delbert Jensen was given his 60-year pin by Worshipful Master Dave Lundy and Lodge Secretary Jim Glasscock on May 7, 2009. It was quite an accomplishment by Brother Jensen since a very few members ever get to receive their 50 year pin, let alone his 60. Congratulations, Brother Jensen.

Englewood had a good presence at the Spring Scottish Rite Reunion with many brothers helping out in degrees, working with costumes, class committee, lighting and projecting slides. One of our Brothers, Tom Brown received his Scottish Rite degrees in this reunion last week and a handful of us went to the Warden’s Workshop. The workshop was at the Shrine building and had maybe forty men there from different lodges. The officers of this gave a lodge of instruction on receiving the Worshipful Master and his cohorts (entourage), along with ways to improve our investigations, regulating our time, priorities and different leadership thoughts.

I have a question, what is “Light”? We use it in our degrees and tell candidates to work toward it. But what is it? Albert Mackey, An Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, gives what I think is the best explanation:
Light is an important word in the Masonic system... It does not simply mean, as might be supposed, truth or wisdom, but it contains within itself a far more abstruse allusion to the very essence of Speculative Masonry, and embraces within its capacious signification all the other symbols of the order. The connection of material light with this emblematic and mental illumination, was prominently exhibited in all the ancient systems of religion and esoteric mysteries…In fact, in all the ancient systems, this reverence for light, as an emblematic representation of the Eternal principle of Good, is predominate.
As always, seek Light, Knowledge and Truth. You never know where you can find it.

Fraternally,

Mike Moore, Senior Deacon
